Parental alienation refers to the process where, often following parental separation, a child rejects one of their parents in an unjustified manner. The sources of the alienation from which the child suffers may be multiple. However, in this process, the child often becomes captive to the way of thinking of the “loved” parent, adheres to it, and conveys nonsensical statements or even accusations about the other parent that lead the professional to doubt the parental capacity of the “hated” parent.
The speaker proposes a refined description of what truly constitutes psychological abuse, the sociocultural context in which it emerged, as well as intervention approaches to remedy it.
