Use of clinical cases to highlight the importance of the school psychologist’s role in the prevention of school dropout. Based on a brief review of the DSM-5 and the listed diagnoses, this training proposes the use of an approach that goes beyond symptom-based diagnoses in order to better target differential diagnosis. Illustration of the theory through clinical cases demonstrating the effectiveness of differential diagnosis so that the child and their environment (parents, school) can better understand the issue. Thus, this approach encourages the child to re-engage with school learning, supported by parents and a more mobilized school team.
